‘LITTLE THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO’ NO.12 – grab a random book

snowdrop.jpgWalk up to the place where you keep your books, close your eyes, run your hands along the rows (enjoy the feelings of rectangular spines) and pick up a book. If it doesn’t immediately grab you, open it up at a random page and start reading. You may find that it actually looks interesting so you’ll go back to the start, or you may just carry on reading from where you started. This is a good way to get used to reading and trying things that you don’t really want to – you might just SURPRISE YOURSELF!

If you can, try to persevere through the feeling of not wanting to read that particular book – read at least 2 chapters. You might not really enjoy it but you may pick up some advanced vocabulary or bit of general knowledge.

REMEMBER – the author wrote it and got it published because they liked it and the publishers thought someone would. There’s got to be something about it that’s interesting!
