Even if you don’t have recipe books at home you can search online for some easy baking. You don’t need specialist equipment, just a bowl, wooden & metal spoons, basic ingredients and an oven (or a fire if you wanted to go natural!).
Pick a recipe that suits your ability and equipment, and go ahead, following the recipe step by step, trying not to make any mistakes! Fairy cakes are a simple thing to make, they can be easily decorated with water icing (if that’s all you have or have time for) and can be shared with friends (or eaten by yourself because they taste so great).
If your baking doesn’t turn out right, think why that may have been. Read back through the recipe and method, trying to see if you missed out a step. Then, if that was all correct, think about the time (if any) spent in the oven; all ovens are different and the temperatures can differ considerably!
If that’s ok, then test your bake and if it’s really inedible dispose of it, and if you could eat it, eat it and BE THANKFUL you have something to eat. (If it looks horrible but tastes nice, cover with some water icing, made of icing sugar & water and you won’t be able to spot the mistakes!)
